Part time Organist/Choir Director wanted. Position requires organ, piano and choral directing skills. Responsibilities include providing instrumental music and leading choral music for Sunday worship and special services of the church year. Duties also include one choir rehearsal per week. The organ is an Allen Renaissance 27 stop, two-manual electronic instrument purchased in 2003. The choir consists of 8-12 members with various levels of ability. The church currently holds two worship services on Sunday but may be consolidating to a single service in the near future. Target starting date for this position is January, 2011. Director of Music Ministry

TITLE OF POSITION: Director of Music Ministry

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Director of Music Ministry shall oversee and direct the music program of the church.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Music Ministry is ultimately accountable to the Session of the church through the Personnel Committee. The Director of Music Ministry shall report to the Pastor (or the Moderator of the Worship Committee in the absence of the Pastor), who shall supervise his/her ongoing work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Commitment to Christian values.
2. A willingness to commit him/herself to the work of Lakeside Presbyterian Church.
3. Proficiency in organ and piano playing, choir direction, and planning and preparing music for worship.
4. Ability to work and communicate with staff and church members.
5. Knowledge of church music.
6. Flexibility in the selection of musical genres appropriate to the talents and abilities of choir members.
7. Ability to work with all age levels.
8. Patience and a sense of humor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide vision and leadership of the music ministry.
2. Coordinate and provide music for the Sunday service(s) as well as special services (Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Maundy Thursday) while coordinating closely with volunteer leaders.
3. Be responsible for the development of the music program to incorporate as many groups, age levels, and talents within the church and community as possible.
4. Direct and hold rehearsals for the Chancel Choir and other music groups as needed.
5. Recommend hymns for use in worship.
6. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the pastor.
7. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the bell choirs and children’s choirs of the church and their volunteer leaders.
8. Recommend a budget adequate for the music program and manage the music budget in accordance with the Worship Committee's financial policies.
9. Meet regularly with the pastor and serve as an ex officio member of the Worship Committee, providing leadership in the development of the music ministry.
10. Maintain the organ and pianos in the sanctuary and choir room by procuring professional tuning and repair as required, as well as cleaning and maintenance of choir robes as needed.
11. Maintain and expand the music library within budget constraints.
12. Serve as a resource for committees and groups of the church.
13. Provide for opportunities for musical outreach programs.
14. Providing music for weddings and funerals is optional.

EVALUATION: Staff evaluations will be conducted by the Personnel Committee, the Pastor and the chairperson of the Worship Committee in accordance with procedures set out in LPC Performance Evaluation document (see page 29). There will be two evaluations the first year and one per year thereafter. The first evaluation shall follow the first ninety days of employment.
